Course Description

Our two day confidence course is designed for pilots who already have their tailwheel endorsement and some hours logged but maybe haven't flown in a while or had an incident that suggests more training is required. This course is tailored to the individual needs and starts out with a discussion of goals, an assessment flight, and then a plan of action to meet those goals. This course is also great for the student pilot working on a PPL that wants to get an introduction to tailwheel flying. Tailwheel is a great way to build a good foundation of stick and rudder skills before bad habits set in. It's so much easier to start off the right way than it is to correct bad habits after hundreds of hours of flight.

Train Tailwheel's Confidence course includes a minimum of 5 hours of dual flight instruction plus 3 hours of ground instruction following the custom plan we create together. This will still follow a structured plan, alternating flight time and ground school. Our instructors will handle the radios and navigation so that you can focus on flying the plane and building the skills you came for. We will utilize several different grass and paved runways in the area.

The tailwheel course is best completed in the type of airplane you intend to fly. If you don't yet own a tailwheel airplane, you can complete the course in one of our Cessnas or Supercubs.

Most insurance companies require 10 hours of dual tailwheel/time in type before they will issue a policy. This course is a good way to get half of those hours with instruction tailored to your specific aircraft. Additional hours can be added if you do need a full 10 hours of dual instruction.
